self-aligning

first, let me apologize if this is a big repeat. i don't get here as often as i used to.

i have read here somewhere, where the non- aligning roller rockers were used for years, without a hitch. has anyone here actually ever tried it. i know there are alot of reasons why we shouldn't, but has anyone "actually" tried it? i have seen both types of heads, and the holes for the pushrods don't leave a lot of play for movement.

Unless you are going to use guide plates don't chance it. Guided RR are cheap insurance.

Actually, they're expensive insurance. $299 for a set of Crane roller rockers.
Are they totally necessary?
