Spark knock and EGR..

Spark knock and EGR..
hey everyone!
Long time no see. My car threw a code on me a couple days ago, 39, hooked it up to a scanner, EGR problem. I just started on my way to get my mechanics license, but all this emissions stuff I haven't learnt yet. I also have a spark knock according to my scanner, when I give it some gas (1/2 way i guess). I heard that it can be caused by the egr valve. I don't hear any knocking sound tough ( I run 94 Octane Sunoco or Shell, so I know it's not that).
