Power Adding Help?
Power Adding Help?
ok recently i just aquired a 1984 z-28 L69 H.O 305 700R4 transmission bonestock and i had some question on wat would be an efficent way to add power to my engine with out spending 3 grand on a turbo or supercharger. i have been reading on the computer doin my research and i was looking at heads, exhaust systems, camshafts and just alot of everything. and theres a bunch of numbers and i just dont really understand wat will fit together. so if you could give me some hints on anything or tips on wat part will do best all is appreciated.

Re: Power Adding Help?
To get you started, get yourself some headers and 3" exhaust all the way back to a Flowmaster muffler. K & N air cleaner, not to mention a full tune up. Plugs, Distributor cap & rotor. That should get you started anyway. If that isn't enough then get yourself a edelbrock intake manifold with a Turbo City T.B.I. There is a nearly endless amount of mods that a guy can do to his ride.
Lowering the gear ratio in the rear would give you a bit more grunt out of the hole. Gas mileage will suffer but...

Yeah i like his stuff that he said, i do like camshafts, if you add an intake u might as well add a camshaft and some 1.6 rockers. u can always add a little nitrous too..the kit is like 500 bucks for tbi cars. But yeah heads deffinately help but they are around 1,000 bucks which is a hefty some of money then you add gaskets and its better to upgrade the bolts.

Re: Power Adding Help?
I have the same exact car I purchased new in 84, The best combo for the 305 I found was, headers, cam, prot the heads (one of the most restrictive parts on this motor), intake manifold, 600 vaccum secondary carb, 3" Dynomax exhaust (I hate the sound of Flowmaster and after testing with future turbo setups found Flowmaster to hinder spoolup time, I.E. restrictive). I used to surprise a lot of people with tis set up. Just beware the tranny is terrable if stock. Since this setup I've been through numerous setups including a 400cu in motor, 350 w/ B&M supercharger, and current 355cu in roller engine, w/T76 turbo and a turbo 400 trans making gobbs of power.

Re: Power Adding Help?
Id say start with a catback and headers then a new intake let it breath!! sence you are carbed you could pick up a cheep dry nos system with like a 75shot have the carb tuned to run rich and your golden.
