Ready to mod, or swap?

I've read thousands of interesting threads on this forum and i've been confused with which route to take. There is so much random information its hard to piece everything together to the newbie..

But i have over $1000 sitting around and my simple goal is to make my car fast for the cheapest price.. like everyone else..

What i have now is a full exhaust and a 3.42 gear..

My next goal is to instal a cam/intake or just a cam for now..

But the problem is the injection.. what route should i go? i've read so much on tuning some people say one thing... then the next person says the exact opposite..

Switching to carb is an option since i have alot of gearhead friends, or tuning but i dont have the time to learn how to tune. or i could buckle down and do a motor swap.. but how much would that cost? Or will my tranny and other parts start going bad with the power increase and i might as well wait and buy a 4th gen with an LT1 or LS1?

or i could get a different ecu but i dont know of any ecus that would run perfect with a mild cam and intake and possible heads in the future..

so if you were 18 and in my position.. what route would u take?

Any help would be appriciated..

Re: Ready to mod, or swap?

You already answered your own question, go with a carburetor. Learning how to tune does not come overnight, and it sounds as if you want to get it done fast, and enjoy your ride as soon as possible. Go with a carb, you can always learn how to tune in the interim....

With a thousand dollars, you can nab some very good (albeit used) performance parts for the engine. I'd consider an Edelbrock RPM intake (air-gapless, as it's cheaper), whatever cam of your choice (depending on where you want your power), and a decent set of used heads, but worked over to achieve desired dynamic compression levels....

It's all in the valvetrain symmetry...
