O2 sensor???

I'm sorry but this isn't for my third gen. I have an 89 suburban tbi that has headers. The oxygen sensor is at the beginning of the collector. The engine is always rich and I believe the sensor isn't getting hot enough to work properly. The headers have been wrapped to try and contain the heat but I don't think its enough. Will a heated O2 sensor from a later model work and how would it have to wire in? I know they make a 3 wire and a 4 wire sensor. Do the heated ones stay heated or do they just heat till engine exhaust heat will get them working?
The headers are Hedman and I added the bung for the sensor.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,,, Matt

I'm using a 3 wire from a '91 vette in my '91 Camaro and it seems to be working well. Just hook up the regular O2 wire then run power and ground wires to it. Be sure the power comes on with the key and not constant.

Try taking your car to a dealer or local garage that has a scan tool. Look at your o2 readings, they should bounce up and down between 200-800mv. The o2 sensor should warm up in just a few seconds. I doubt it's the o2 sensor, you'd get an SES light telling you if you've got problems with a sensor.
