Belt tensioner?

Why does the belt tensioner rattle when ever I turn on the A/C?

Probably because it's been loaded down by the compressor. You might want to replace it.

mine too. ac compressor may be dying and giving more load. or you might have a bad bearing or something in the tensioner. mine has done it for quite a while, but no problems yet. year and a half maybe. however it makes my engine sound real crappy if i turn on the ac. hehehe.

Mine does at idle in park or nuetral. I took it to a shop and the replaces the spring or the bearing or something like that. It made the sound go away.....for a day or two. I dont run the ac when i am around people.
