more on the LO5

Just throwing a question at you guys. Does this sound like a good plan? Get the LO5, add good intake, exhaust, etc. Port and polish the heads, the leave it in the car for a while. As time and money allows, go to a better cam and heads to add more power when I get sick of the stock engine. Would love to get a 300 hp engine now and put it in, but money doesn't really come that easily to me right now, and need a new engine soon! Someone knock me straight if this sounds stupid. Thanks!

Sounds like a good idea to me. Thats what I am gonna do, only with my 305, just build it up slowly and buy more stuff for as I get more money. I wish I had enough money to swap for a 350 though.

I would get the LO5, take off the new heads, and sell them or trade them for a better set( see archives). Then you won't have to pull them later.I would also buy a used lt1 cam or other roller cam L-98 and go ahead and put it in now. Good heads and an lt1 cam would get you a real nice engine for not much more money than the LO5 At least get a used cam for $100 and add that..........bob

It comes with a nice GM warranty. Do bolt ons till that runs then port the heads. There is no point in paying $1500 just to take the heads off. You can get a GM shortblock for $1000.
