safe lift on 193
Whats the maximum rekomended lift on a standard lo5 head (193). And whats the cheapest way to get more lift, longer valves or cut down guides. Its a DIY cuestion..

Most stock Gen I GM castings are limited to around .460" to .480" of cam lift. In order to run a cam with lift specs greater than that you will need to have the valve guides cut/machined (less than $100 for heads at your average engine maching shop). In addition, the stock pressed in studs will need to be replaced in favor of screw in units (typically around $200 plus the cost of screw in studs, IE ARP studs or ones a similar nature). The stock rocker studs will likely pull out of the head with a cam over .480" lift

If I recall, most of the flow charts suggested the '193s are best around .450" lift anyhow.
