3 degrees before top dead center...(HELP on the timing)
hi guys.......
last year when my motor was swapped in, the crate motor builders in Arizona recommended that I set my timing to 3 degrees before top dead center TDC.
i still have my 5.0 injectors on my 350cid. I never got around to chips and injectors (hardly home anymore). The car runs sluggish and rich. VERY RICH...Most of the time I smell the richness everytime i shift gears.
My idle is Great! But how can i keep my idle settings and turn up the timing to lean out ****SOME**** of that excess fuel. Im averaging 185 to 200 miles per tank and Sorry a$$ power too! My 5th gear has no *****.
i do have the 5.0 injectors so i dont want to get to carried away and get SUPER lean.
i am aware that i need 5.7 chips and injectors. but i need a quicker fix. Sorta like a bandaid on this matter.
ANYBODY?

You've got the wrong idea. Changing your timing will not affect fuel trim. You don't set the timing rich or lean, it's advanced or retarded. You need tuning. You're running a 350 on 305 injectors...what does the ECM think it's running? You MUST start there.
