New Fuel Pump
I have an 89 firebird with the 305 TBI which needs a new fuel pump. My current pump is only putting out 3 psi, which is just enough to get the car to start and then die. My problem is that I do not have a suitable place to do the work and I frankly just don't feel like doing it myself.
Has anyone had a shop replace their fuel pump? How much did they charge?
I have already purchased the new pump and other parts to be replaced at the same time. One shop quoted me $280 for labor. That sounds reasonable to me, but I wanted to see what other people had gotten it done for?

280 is probably reasonable, I did my swap myself, but I'm sure a shop would bill it as quite a long job. What pump did you buy? If stock replacement, I would take it back and upgrade now so you never have to drop the tank to replace it again. (i.e. walbro 190)

I second that!
Buy a good pump now and never mess with it again.

Re: New Fuel Pump
How long you plan on keeping the car? Honestly.
290 is good. I wouldn't pay the extra for the upgrade until I knew if I was going to keep this car for a very long time or if I was going to sell it eventually (some day down the road 5-10 years).

I got the walbro 190 for 80 bucks, you're not going to find a pump for much cheaper than that, especially when figuring almost 300 for labor.

Re: New Fuel Pump
I purchased the stock replacement. I am planning on having the car for about a year or so. That seems to be just long enough to get a car fixed up the way I like it and then get bored with it. Ideally I would like to get my hands on an '89 Trans Am 20th Anniversary Edition, but I know how hard those are to come by.
