Fuel Pressure Testing

I am going to be testing the pressure on a 1992 305 engine with TBI. If it is out of spec (to high or low) how do I know if I have a bad regulator or pump problem. I don't want to replace the wrong item.

You can perform a 'deadhead' test on FP by pinching off return line. If the fuel pump is healthy observed fuel pressure will zoom past 13 PSI to about 20+ for a stock pump. If you do not see fuel pressure jump then it is Fuel pump time - the least favorite job of my. If you're getting very low fuel pressure otherwise and deadhead test shows healthy pressure jump than get the FPR spring and diaphragm replaced.
