bigger fuel line question
probably a dumb question but i have to put new fuel lines on my car because the old ones are rusted through in the back. I am someday wanting to upgrade from my LO3 to maybe a 400sbc with 400-500hp. Will the stock size fuel lines feed that or would i need bigger lines. So my question is if i do need bigger lines can i put them on now since I have to change them anyway or will that seriously mess stuff up for the LO3?

Re: bigger fuel line question
if you think about it...your going to need adapters and such on either end to hook up to the sizes that are provided for your engine, so you will need 1 adapters if your only messing with the feed line, and when you go to do the engine swap, your going to need to play with the fuel lines anyway unless your sticking with TBI once you go to a 400 sbc. If you think about it...with those adapters to step it down it's not really going to matter....effeciency is only as good as the smallest pinch in a line, so if you have a small line off your pump into an adapter to support a bigger line, then the adapter there will still limit it at the engine. It's only going to be as effecient as the adapters really. This is just theory as i haven't tinkered with size of fuel lines but all in all it may end up leaving things screwy IMO.
You could save money and just patch the area that is bad. Get a double flaring kit, a couple end caps and female to female connectors, and some pipping and be able to do it yourself, along with being able to do your own custom brake lines whenever needed in the future. Just a thought.

Re: bigger fuel line question
yea i think if i ever go to the 400 ill try to stick with tbi probably switch to one off a 454. that was kind of what i thought just neck it down and have the bigger feed line there and be able to switch the rest of everything over someday instead of having to replace a new line thats only a few years old. as for patching it if i did it would probably rust out somewhere else pretty quick the whole line doesnt look too good. im doin the brake lines too cause they look just as bad. thanks for the info
