TBI motor problem
I know this is not an F-body concern, but there is no better source of info on these motors that I know of.
I need some advice from some of you older GM guys. I have a '91 S-10 pickup with a 2.8L TBI V6. It had a really bad oil leak coming from the top of the engine. In hindsight it was probably just the distributor seal, but I resealed the top end of the motor. Since putting it back together it has a really nasty "POP" on tip-in and it loses all of it power for a second. Otherwise I think it is down on power anyway, and it is running a little rough, though it was kind of like that already. It is old as crap, 241k+ miles, but I use it as my beater. Anyhow, I can't figure out what this pop is. I can't seem to find any intake or exhaust leaks, but I haven't had a chance to monitor vacuum yet...what should it be? I think it is running rich too. No I haven't done a tune-up yet, but it wasn't like this before I tore into the top end of the motor. Could it be that I didn't set the valve lash correctly? Once I had done it I realized that the procedure called for 1.5 turns past zero lash, and I only went 1/2 turns. Could this cause my drivability problem? Any thoughts would be helpful.
