valve adjusting

Hello guys, me again. I"m in the process of adjusting the valves. I have a way I"m doing this but I want to see if I can come up with a better way. I want to do this adjustment with the engine not running... I refuse to have the oil everywhere when I'm done. So I'd like to see what I come up with from this forum.

Re: valve adjusting

This has always worked for me. I use a 1/2" drive long ratchet with what ever size socket fits the crank and turn it as needed. I need to get one of those new fangled fancy sockets that fit the crank but whatever. I think it's a 5/8 and you do not have to remove the pulley and belt to do this. You will move the engine after every valve that's adjusted..

OK.......

VALVE ADJUST

Tighten the rocker nut until you feel the slightest drag then stop and add 1/2 to 1 turn.

1....When exhaust is just starting up.....ADJUST THE INTAKE VALVE........1/2 TO 1 TURN

2....Rotate until intake opens then closes 2/3........ADJUST THE INTAKE VALVE..........1/2 TO 1 TURN

HTH as I have never had to go back and readjust the valves doing it this way.
