you should not need a new harmonic balancer but if you for sure want to get one you should check out fluid dampner i have one of those on my 357 works nicely also when you go to pull the motor take the hood off also the feet on that cherry picker should fit under the car so you should be fine on clearance

Yeh im going to take the hood off today or tomorrow, My friend gave me a GTA Cowl hood im going to use.

My friend said that the stock harmonic balancer is garbage and a new one would make the harmonics of the engine wayyyy better.

a new one is going to make your engine a little happier but is it necessary No depending on your target rpm range it would probably be a good idea to replace it

Re: Starting my S/C 305, T56 build [will have pics]

Well if I get a new harmonic balancer its going to be ATI, because the one they recommended is 100$ cheaper then the one fluidampr recommended.

And my friends 2001 Trans Am is gone, they towed it away today, so if you want to see how a 2001 trans am looks with a 1992 rear end, check the picture, lol. The rear end barely fit, the tires rub all inside the wheel well, but its just getting towed so it doesent matter too much.

The front brakes definitely wont fit , so ill have to wait to put those on later down the road when I get new wheels, I just hope the back ones will fit

All I have to do to finish the rear end on my car is tighten up some bolts and figure out the parking brake lines, then put springs on and tires.

Re: Starting my S/C 305, T56 build [will have pics]

My stock nuts on the brake lines are all stripped and the flaring tool I had did a terrible job, so I ordered some new stuff from finelinesinc.com

I also looked inside my master cyl...... my brake fluid is disgusting, its like a super dark brownish color, almost black. So once im done with the engine, my cars getting aligned and new brake fluid for sure.

If anyone has pictures of how they did their LS1 parking brake lines, that would be extremely helpful.

He drove DUI and got in a accident. Damage isent terrible, but the front end is mushed up a bit and the frame is bent. He already bought a new one, a 1999 Red trans am, no where near as nice as the black 2001 he had though. The 99 doesent have ram air and isent ws6. The black one he wrecked only had 50k miles on it and had ram air, and ws6. I dont like the 93-02s without the ram air.

I may have bought the transmission/engine from him, but he crashed it AFTER I had already spent about 1500$ worth of parts for my TBI set-up, so it dident really make sense money wise.

So you run a 305 huh? In my opinion that's fine, but have you gotten tired of hearing guys say "dump the 305 and get a 350"? I get sick of just reading it.

I have an 89 Formula and I'm doing some of the same mods (well, sort of) you are. 12-bolt/LT1 rear brakes, T56 or TKO500. Do you have any pics of your car? Also, I'm in Richmond, where abouts are you located?

All the dump the 305 stuff, is annoying sometimes. But I dont hear it enough to have it really get to me.

I dont have any recent pictures of it, im going to be using a Blue GTA hood with a cowl scoop on it, so it wont look so pretty, also this picture is before I lowered it and before I got the windows tinted [just a light legal tint]

Im in Dumfries though, Richmond is about 2hours away I think.

For those interested im still waiting on the brake lines I ordered from finelines, I called them today and they said the items were back ordered but that I should get them the 1st at the latest. So it doesent look like their will be anything new for a while. Ill post pictures when the lines are all on and when my friend welds/moves the parking brake brackets.

Re: Starting my S/C 305, T56 build [will have pics]

Couple of questions for you guys out there.

It looks easiest to take the hood off by the bolts that go into the car, but my new hood doesent have any of that stuff, so I need to take the whole car to hood plate and everything.
Any easy way to take the "screws" off the stuff that goes into the hood so I can swap it all over to the new hood?

And is their any easy way to take the tie rods adjusting sleeves off? I cut the little bolts off of them [they were all rusted and seized up]
I looked in the haynes manual and it said I needed a special tool to take the tie rod off in the wheel well. Is that what I need to do or is their another way?
Im putting some UMI tie rod adjusting sleeves on.

Well finelines is taking FOREVER to get me my brake lines, if they dont ship by the end of this week I think im going to cancel my order and go elsewhere.

And pulling the engine/trans out is killing me!
I unbolted the headers at the Y-pipe, drained the oil/coolant, and now im not even sure where to go next, I need to try to see if someone can help me soonish [I seem to get a lot more done when I got someone helping]

Well the guy who sold me the heads came and helped me pull the motor/trans. Only took about 5 hours and the motor/trans were out. We dident pull the front bumper off or anything, and we took it all out as 1 piece without any problems.

Either tomorrow or thursday im going to start building up the engine and hopefully by next week ill be done or reallll close. Ill post some pictures tomorrow too of the engine and everything.

You got that right. Thanks for posting the pics. They gave me some insight on how to attach the engine balancer to the block. Where did you attach it to the front. I was thinking the water pump top bolt since I do not want to lift it from the aluminum heads.

Are you going to drop it back in with the tranny in? I was think to but I am thinking about going through the first start up with it off in case I run into any problems. I have put my tranny back in single handed enough times that I am not too worried about it. However, it would be nice to connect them before hand.

My engine had the little lift plates on the intake manifold, I just used those and they worked fine. Just take the distributer off and the driver side header, and take your exhaust off and the engine/tranny will come out as one piece without problem, long as you have the load leveler and an engine hoist that will go up pretty high.

When I put it all back in, I plan on putting the new tranny in first, since it will be way easier to do all the wiring and everything that way. But if I have trouble lining it up ill have to put it in as 1 piece.

Does anyone know where I can get a 3 1/2in 90degree fitting? I need one for my air filter and can not seem to find one anywhere. If you can find 90degree I think I can get away with a 60 degree.

Horsepower TV started a new project today on a 92 RS TBI. They got a kit from Specter that puts the air filter below the battery tray. THey had to relocate the battery to the trunk, but it was similar to what I did when I had my TPI bird.

-Carb hat, one standard, one low profile, 2- 90 degree, 2- 60 degree, 2- 45 degree, 2-straight, couplers, foam inserts, Quik-Fab universal kit.

I guess you buy the kit and get credit back for what you do not use.

I guess you buy the kit and get credit back for what you do not use.

Ive been wanting to watch that episode about the camaro. Any idea if the show has dvds or anything that maybe I can buy?

And Ive seen the spectre parts, I just cant seem to figure out where to buy the 3 1/2in 90degree angle joint that I need.

Never mind about where I can get the videos, they are on Itunes.

I saw that today and almost cried. I've been looking forever for a CAI kit that wasn't an arm and a leg in cost and requiring the use of a hack saw to install and resulted in a finished product that looked bad. The Spectre site has so many possible combos for CAI kits its almost mind boggling.

Also, they have some neat DIY steel-braiding kits for all those under hood tubes that need a spifer upper.

Heres the site:

yeh ive been to the site. Just can I order directly from them? Or where can I get it?

I need part # 9599

And for you guys wondering on my intake set-up. Its an Airaid TBI hat and then im going to go with the 90 degree elbow and I got a K&N air filter. No tubing or anything like that. The supercharger moves the throttle body further back and puts it at an angle, I think I posted a picture of it earlier.

Is the gear on my stock distributer melonized?
I bought a new melonized one, but the one on there is in perfect condition, and dont feel like replacing it unless its broke.

Stock distributor gear works with most aftermarket roller cams. This was an issue with pre-87 blocks that were upgraded to roller cams. For those, they recommended a bronze gear.

FYI I dropped my motor in yesterday with both headers on (2055s). I am going to do the initial break-in w/o the motor attached, just in case.

Yeh, if nothing busts ill just keep my stock gear, it looks to be in perfect condition, so ill just save the new one I got for when this one brakes I guess.

I'll have to look when home. They are either 3/8 or 7/16 NC ... .same size bolts as the hold the bellhousing on. Make sure to use grade 8. 2 - 2.5"

With those bolts from Jegs.... I had to use sooooo so many washers to get them to work, lol. But they seem to work fine.

I unbolted the intake manifold completely and unbolted 1 of the heads. And they still seem to be stuck on, very irritating.

Any one with experience with the Moroso Windage tray, please help.

I got ARP 5501 kit, and they are too short
If anyone has used the Moroso Windage Tray, please chime in to tell me what bolts you used, thanks.

Maybe im just confused as to how it goes on? But maybe if you have some pictures of it installed that would be great.

Re: Starting my S/C 305, T56 build [will have pics]

I just put the Windage tray on pretty high and I think its good.
The oil pan was being super difficult to get on though, none of the holes wanted to line up. Im tempted to take the pan off and lower the windage tray a little, the bolts on the tray are tight, but some of them arent even on all the threads.... so I may open the pan up and lower it a little bit.

Re: Starting my S/C 305, T56 build [will have pics]

I ended up taking the pan off and opening the holes on it up a lil so it would line up. I also lowered the windage tray a little bit.

Im painting my engine hemi orange, and im just going to paint things like the timing chain cover black, im also painting the new heads black also.

I ordered a new water pump today, I figured might as well replace it while im at it. I went with the Weiand 9240P.

I got my intake manifold off, it is dirty under there, lol. Im gonna take the heads off and clean up inside of there tomorrow when I get more brake cleaner.

Anyone get the Moroso oil pan to work with a y-pipe?
Im thinking of driving open headers and just having a shop add some extension pipe so the y-pipe will fit with the new pan.

I checked Weiands site but didnt find out much. If your using the belt set-up from your 92 you do need to make sure the pump is reverse rotation atleast.
