Wont Start & Run
Wont Start & Run
Hi Guys i was sent over from coloradok5.com. A couple guys said you guys are gurus for tbi information. From what im finding its true. I really need someones help as this is my only mode of transportation, and i just bought it also.
91 suburban 454 tbi
The first real time driving it. It ran great. Parked it for the nite and came out the next morning for work, now it wont start and run. I can pour gas down the tbi and it will run from that and die. I have checked the following
All fuses
fuel pump relay
I can hear the fuel pump cycle for a few seconds then shutoff. while im at the back of the truck. (new pump previous owner 1 month ago)
Module in Dist was checked-good
new fuel filter
Have power via test light at the injectors.
I am really lost on this as this is my 1st fuel injected vehicle. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Wont Start & Run
At least we know you are getting air and fire but no fuel. Some possibilities:
Check the fuel filter it may be clogged.
Fuel injectors are dead (you did say you checked all the fuses, does this include the injectors?)
Fuel pump has one in the grave and one leg on a banana peel.
Fuel pick up could be clogged.

Re: Wont Start & Run
Try disconnecting one of the fuel lines to see if the pump is actually pumping anything when you first turn the ignition on or as you crank the engine. On a Camaro, there are flexible lines between the hard lines on the engine and frame rails that make this pretty easy catch the fuel in a container w/o spraying it all over the engine.
If you only get a dribble or don't get anything at all, either the fuel pump is bad or there is a clog somewhere in the system.
If you get a reasonable amount of fuel, it's possible the diaphram in the fuel pressure regulator has failed. This will prevent the fuel system from pressurizing enough to get fuel through the injectors. All the fuel is just passing through to the return line back to the tank.
Of course, using a fuel pressure gauge will test this as well. Unfortunately, on the stock GM TBI there's no Schrader valve in the system to make it easy. You'll either have to install an adapter that has one or a tee to install a gauge.
