Fuel/TBI Newbie Questions

Hello,

Had a new Fuel Pump put in but the shop said there was no fuel filter? 1983 Z28 Cross Fire 305 - Totally stock. Very cool but I haven't got a repair manual yet. (It's on the way)

Are the two TBI supossed to fire like sprinklers or have a constant misting?

Whats the best way to (DIY) clean the TBI units? Thanks.

Re: Fuel/TBI Newbie Questions

never had a CFI vehicle, but on the regualr Rochester TBI units (like mine) it sprays intermitten at idle. Almost like a "click click click". As you roll on the throttle and the engine demands more fuel, the injector pulse widens and they pour more in.

If you think about how it works, its simple. The fuel pressure on these cars isnt supposed to really change. That in mind, the way the ECM controlls mixture is by controling how long the injectors are open / closed.

I read somewhere that on a TBI vehicle, all factory, the injectors can go static (completely open) above 4500RPM at WOT. Not sure if its true.

Best way is to send to FICINJECTORS. Look on corvette forum and they have a video posting of the clean/rebuild process on a TBI vehicle. Like $35 each. All you can do is clean pindle and that is not sufficient.
