I have a 1992 305 RS TBI and it was idling high and loading up to the point of black smoke and starting to stall out, and now cant hardly get it to start at all unless you hold throttle to the floor. Changed O2 senser because thats the code it threw with no change,changed vac lines, checked for vac leaks and all sensors plugged in. I'm lost!!! Any help would be great

 

well cut off cat and it was plugged, put new plugs in and checked distributor cap looks good, got it to start but is still cutting out and smoking, smell alot of fuel

 

Did you do a seach under Tech General engine or TBI?

 

I am looking everywhere to try and figure this out, yesterday i dropped the fuel tank and put new pump in, and put in another O2 sensor, and got it to run pretty good, then after we ran it a while it started to sputter a little and then just shut down like you turned the key off, but starts back up fine.

 

Any codes showing? Is it consistantly starting up fine and after a few minutes running rough? Do you know any of the history of the car such as anything else replaced, etc.? When you say smoking, that would be black smoke, right? Does it still have a high idle?

 

Yes it is black smoke, and it was throughing codes for O2, and coolant temp sensor. After changing fuel pump, fuel filter, and second O2 sensor and cutting off the plugged cat it is doing alot better. It does start up fine and after it warms up good it wants to load up a little and while setting and idling it will just die like you shut it off. Could the ignition module in the distributor do this? What dealings I had with them is they usually just quit. Thats all thats been done to the car. Yes it still wants to idle around 1500 and will drop off sometimes. Thanks!

 

You are correct, they do just die. I will get back to you later w/ more suggestions, got to work now.
