Fuel Pump Fuse

I just replaced the fuel pump on my 91 firebird. Come to find out the old one wasn't bad. The pump does not prime when you turn the key on. I switched the relay with the fan relay. I'm going to replace them anyway.

I have seen some post where people talk about a fuse near the battery. My battery is on the drivers side.

Does anyone know where I can locate this Fuel Pump fuse. BTW when I put power to the relay test lead the fuel pump runs. I also cracked open the fuel lines to verify it's getting fuel. I did turn the engine over with the fuel pump running and it didn't do anything.

I'm not sure the fuel is the only problem but it's where I'm starting. I believe the fuel pump should prime with the key on.

Thanks,
Philip

Re: Fuel Pump Fuse

The fuel pump should prime for 2 seconds with the key on. The fuel pump fuse on my 91' that originally had TPI is located on the passenger side after the battery near coolant overflow tank. It may be hidden inside the fender. Make sure your getting power to the relay.

Re: Fuel Pump Fuse

I have the same problem you have on my 88 camaro. Ive changed the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, cut the lines open, and changed the fuse next to the battery. And havent found out why the pump doesnt prime when the swith is on. the only way i could start the car is by cranking the engine 3 or 4 times untill the fuel pump kicks in. You could try this. Or connect a wire from your fuse box all the way under the car into the fuel pump connector located under the gas tank. This will make your pump come on when open the switch

Re: Fuel Pump Fuse

Their is the oil pressure fuel relay by the oil filter it still will not start unless you build up oil psi by cranking the motor. A couple times if this is your fix of choice it will be hard on your starter.
