Hi guys, Ive been looking around for a bit but havent come across what i am wondering so heres the story: I just got an 89 bird with 5.0tbi and 160,000 miles, going to replace it with a 350 over the winter while im fixing up the car. I have read on here from years ago (been gone for 5 years while i had a mustang) that all I need is a knock sensor and cant remember if it was the whole ecm or just the chip for a 350, is that correct? and is there anything else i need to make the swap? Also I was wondering what you guys think would be a good cam for this thing, I am definatly keeping the tbi and everything run by the computer. I mainly want good low end and midrange power since I dont plan on doing any racing or anything that requires high rpm power, just good power to take off and get upto the speed limit fast, with a good pull of power. So I need something that will work with the ecm without much more that possibly adding a chip to make it run good. also what is a good intake for it also, I had the edelbrock performer tbi on my old 91 bird I had, is there better ones out there nowdays or will a good 4bbl intake with a tbi adapter be a good choise, or even work? I used to know about everything on these thirdgens, but I cant remember much anymore.

you don't need the whole computer, but if you swap the cam for anything but what that chip was made for, you will need to get into chip burning.

Edit, you will also either need to turn up your fuel pressure or get larger injectors.

thanx for moving the post, I wasnt sure were to put it, because its an engine swap, yet still all tbi related. Thinkin now not to swap anyways, cuz i drove the car home today from the guy I bought it from, and it really runs great as is, even though 160 k miles on stock 305 (doesnt even burn oil). might just add a coupe things like I did on my 91 I had. I figure I really need to focus on replacing pretty much everything in the whole suspension sytem as my staring point, really rough and wandering bumpy ride.
