Has Anyone Ever Tried It Before?

Well guys my question is. Has anyone tried using a 14" K&N filter in their TBI. I recently bought the Xstream from K&N, i tried it out. The Maro revs up when letting go of the gas then goes down. It seems to flood the engine loud hissing sound, probably injectors spraying. I test drove it, went hard on the gas at time and really wakes the engine . Problem was after a while cruising it made all those problems I said earlier. It shut off on me in a light, seemed to me like to much gas going in. Lots of black smoke after i got it started again. So today I took off the filtered lid from K&N and put on the Edelbrock open element lid back on with the K&N filter with same problems as before. Has anyone that tried it have the same results. There is probably way to much airflow for the TBI maybe a tune can help right.

Sounds like you have another problem. You cannot have too much airflow as the engine will suck in as much as it needs (ie it is not force fed with a power adder). It is likely that the intake is holding open your throttle open. It is a tight fit in there and your linkage could be stuck. I run a 14" open element with the extreme lid but it is only for looks as the 305 TBI is not air limited by 99% of open air elements. Heat is the biggest downfall, not size. I would take a look at your fuel system. Check your fuel pressure regulator diaphram, injector spray pattern without drips etc...etc...

Well I dont think my fuel system is going bad because I have ran the open element for probably 2 years or so. It ran fine but as soon as I put on the Xstream filter in, it started to do all this. I also have the SS hood on my RS the opening infront is opened up as well.

check any sensor did you forget to plug in the (IAT) inlet air temp sensor or maybe a sesor around the tbi sounds like fuel problem possibly a timming problem!

It is not the filter nor the assembly. Maybe a coincidence. Did it hold a code? Pull codes and see what is there. I believe you can have a code with no CE/SES light on.

No like said before. My whole timing and fuel system is fine because I ran the open element for a really long time with no problem. As soon as I put on the K&N filter it started doing all this. The IAT is unplugged but I reset the computer (disconnected battery for a while).

Yea I thought of that just haven't had the chance. The SES light goes on n off. When it revs up it goes down when I am driving it goes away. Im gonna see what codes it gives me.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Tried It Before?

i have a stock air cleaner housing. modified some with an xtreme lid and sometimes when idleing like thru a drive thru my car will die. honestly i think gas is pooling up where the IAC motor is and causing it to kill the car...never can confirm it though.

The IAT needs to be plugged into the harness and attached somewhere or even just left hanging at a location away from excess heat or danger of shorting out
