LF opinions on injectors

have recently been fixing up my 92 bird, 3.1.(first car) and im having little problems with some hesitation problems, misfires, and burning lean fuel(can smell it in the catalytic converter), so iv narrowed it down to the fuel injectors, i was thinking of cleaning them for 20$ ea, 120$ total. but after reading some threads on fuel injector problems, i read somewhere that as old as these cars are 18-25 years old, they're at that age where injectors start to give out, either just sludge/dirtiness, injectors start shorting or cracked injectors. but also injectors last a long time and never go bad(supposedly)
i cant decided whether to clean the injectors(possibly find out one or a couple are shorted out or cracked) buy New injectors or RE-MANUFACTURED/REFURBISHED injectors to save myself a little cash.

my debate is, are re-manufactured/refurbished injectors worth saving some money and have some to no risk of malfunctioning? hoping to get some of thirdgen feed back and possibly some experiences with this kind of issue.

if you think i should just clean, replace, with new or refurbished injectors, please state why

thanks Thirdgen, keep the generation alive =_

Re: LF opinions on injectors

You are actually on the wrong board. The 3.1l car is MPFI not TBI.

However, the stock Multec injectors in the 3.1l engines do short the coils out. No sense in cleaning them or replacing them with reman Multecs. The only thing those injectors are good for is lining the bottom of a waste bin.

Best bet is to go to South Bay Injectors (http://www.southbayfuelinjectors.com/) and purchase the reman Bosch injectors specifically for your vehicle. $22 each and they are listed right on the home page. Can't go wrong.

They are pre-owned Bosch injectors, cleaned, flowed, new o-rings and filters.
