LO3 effective mods

Could anyone give me advice on the most effective mods for an LO3? Its a 91 RS. I am the only one in my family who got the "car gene" and have no one else to tell me this stuff. For a stock LO3, what would be the best cam? What about headers? And does anyone know of a chip that will work for these things?

Re: LO3 effective mods

Do some searches first, ultimate tbi mods is a good one to look up, im running hooker shorty headers, imo headers and exhaust should come first, then ultimate tbi mods, including fuel pressure regulator, then rear gear change, then you can get into cam options and tuning

Re: LO3 effective mods

Since effective is mentioned, you can skip the ultimate tbi mods from the list, for a long way.

Unrestricted air cleaner, full exhaust and gears is the no brainer part, if you play with the fuel pressure I would suggest a coustom chip at least.

If you add a cam, like LT1 or similar, fueling set up and some serious tuning become mandatory.

Re: LO3 effective mods

Here's something that you can do at home with a timing light. Advance your timing between 3* and 6*advanced. Mine runs great at 4* advanced.Do some reading with the search option and familiarize yourself with the process. I think it made a nice difference with my throttle response.
After that its as "tomas1976" said the basics with opening up the intake and exhaust then it really depends on what your goals are when it comes to picking a rear end. Mine is a DD streetcar so I stayed with the 10 bolt and went from a 2.73 open differential to a 3.42 ratio and Eaton posi. with support cover. The rear end work is what really woke the car up.

Re: LO3 effective mods

Thank you sir, lol. I made the emblems from some stock S10 emblems. I cut off the "10's" and made a slight bevel so the other S could be placed on using JB Quick. I taped off the bowtie and letters, painted them with satin black paint/with clear and put them on.

Re: LO3 effective mods

As with the LG4, GM chose to lower the HP of the lo3 by choking the airflow in and out of the engine. Simply switching to a stock L98 TPI exhaust (3" vs. 2.25") and using an L69 dual snorkel air cleaner assembly (with a K&N filter) can be worth over 30hp. Going to headers and a performance 3" cat back will give you even more. You also have things like chips, under drive pulleys, and other items that work well to add more HP.
