So I just bought a 89 Firebird TBI on Tuesday and then yesterday the car dies on my as i pull into my parking garage and now it wont start. I had it towed to my mechanic and he said that its the a new coil. I dont know much about engines but I wanted to see if this sounds right. From what I see on this board, it seems the TBI's are known for this. how long should this new coil last?

 

Stock coil or aftermarket? I assume you're talk about the ignition coil itself? I had issues with Accel coils going bad, and one even bad out of the box. Went back to AC Delco stuff, and everything is great.
