no crank/no start TBI 350

Hello all,

I have a 78 Malibu with a TBI 350 in it from the car's original owner. Swap was done years ago at AZ Speed and Marine. I believe the engine to be from a 87+ chevy truck (centerbolt heads).

Question is where to start with a no crank/no start issue.

Ive replaced the battery. The headlights, dash lights, and aftermarket gauges all work but when I crank it, I get nothing. No crank, no click, just nothing.

Previously, I could get the car to crank on its own from the column but after replacing the battery, it seems to be back to a no crank/no start condition.

I plan to get the test light out and check the starter when I get home to make sure its getting power. Should I invest in one of the cheapie multimeter to assist with this?

Would any of you be willing to share some knowledge on how to tackle the no crank/no start issue? I was all set to start checking for fuel/spark prior to the car reverting back to the no crank condition.

Thanks in advance.

Ken

Re: no crank/no start TBI 350

Do you have power to the S terminal of the solenoid when the key is turned to "crank"?

Power at S terminal = defective starter, locked-up engine, faulty ground connection.

No power to S terminal = defective battery, defective battery cables, defective ignition switch, defective or mis-adjusted neutral safety or clutch pedal switch, and/or defective wiring connecting these components.

Perfect! Thank you schurkey. I will try to see if I have power at the s terminal and will report back.

Thanks again.

i had a problem like yours and it ended up being the ignition wire going to the starter inside the steering column.
