Lots of questions.....

Im not even sure which forum to post this in...

Vehicle: 1993 4WD Chevy Pickup 5.7 TBI
ECM 16168625 (E6 / 6E cant remember which)
Had factory 4l60E transmission.

So here it goes...The 4l60E crapped out so I located a built 700 which I installed. My questions are in regards to computer control of the old tranny to the new and what may need to be done in reagrds to the ecm.

The TV cable wont be an issue because the original bracket has that provision. I just need to get a bellcrank and attach it to the linkage (the hole is there also .

Can the lockup converter on the 700 be wired up to the exhisting harness from the 4L60E and controled from the ecm? If yes does anyone have any schematics?

Does anyone know where VSS is being received from? Is it coming from the 4L60E tranny or is it further down the line in one of the plugs in the transfer case? I dont even know if my speedometer works at this point (it's not cable driven).

Any tips from anyone who has done this conversion would be greatly appreciated.

I have burned about 150 chips in the past for this vehicle but it has been a while so i might be a little rusty until I get back in the swing of it...

Thanks for any advise / help

Brandon

Re: Lots of questions.....

The newer TBI PCM can control the 700R4, you will need to locate someone to burn you a chip (or DIY). Fast355 had the newer TBI PCM controlling a 700R4 in his mid-80s G van. One of his bins (aka what you would burn to a chip) is floating around somewhere on this message board.

I personally think you should just have the 4L60E rebuilt,. Much nicer drivability compared to a 700R4. And they seem to last a lot longer when behind stock engines vs the 700R4. FWIW, the 700R4 "drivetrain" will bolt into the 4L60E, then you just need to rebuild the valve body. Could probably get your "built" 700R4 recased into your 4L60E for a few hundred bucks.

Re: Lots of questions.....

VSS has to be in the transfer case, or it would be inaccurate when the transfer case was in low-range vs. high-range.

My '88 is electronic, using (I think) a two-wire molded-plastic connector.

I've burned a few hundred for the engine setup....its the transmission I'm having problems with. The original 4l60 was electronically controlled via pcm. The original bin has parameters to control tcc lockup...my trouble is the exhisting 4l60 wiring at the tranny to connect to the 700r4 tcc lockup
