Hey guys, so i just changed my fuel filter and fuel pump. The old filter was jn bad shape causing the pump to fail im sure. Anyways now at certain rpm's, or after half throttle i can hear a ticking. At first ithought it was the motor but with it coming and going depending on how much gas i give it i think i might just be hearing the injectors. Is this normal?

 

I had a 305 TBI engine as well and you will hear the pulsation of the injectors closing. I would look into it a little more but it is possible that you are just hearing the injectors. Have you looked at them to see if they are spraying properly with the cone shape? Does it hesitate at all when you hear that or does it run fine other then the ticking noise?

 

You guys have better ears than I do.

I don't EVER hear the TBI injectors fire from inside the vehicle.

First thing that comes to mind when there's a "ticking" noise with more than 1/2 throttle...is "ping" from detonation.

 

that could another idea to. Have you checked your timing to see if it is in timing? It could be spark knock which is from your timing being to advanced. If your piston is to far down the cylinder and the spark plugs fires and the wrong time it will cause a lot of unneeded pressure and will cause spark knock. Also check your rockers and see if they needed to readjusted.

 

I know these are different injectors but TBI injectors make about the same sound, just much quieter. Watch the video at the bottom of this link. Is that your sound?
