Weird right?
1992 Camaro rs 305 tbi. With a lot of hair pulling and cussing Im down to some weird stuff going on. Injectors aren't pulsing to start the engine. I can get it started with starting fluid then it shuts off. Now here's the kicker. If I start it with starting fluid and keep it running, the injectors will start to fire and it will stay running. But after a while, it will quit again. Any ideas? I was thinking tps or icm.
Re: Weird right?
First Guess: Failed fuel pump relay or wire harness, or failed ECM command to fuel pump relay (failed ECM or wiring harness). Engine starts on external fuel, builds oil pressure, activates oil pressure bypass for fuel pump relay--which then runs the fuel pump until the oil pressure goes away.
Does the fuel pump prime for two seconds when key is turned "on"?
What is the oil pressure of the engine at idle?
For that matter, what is the fuel pump pressure at idle and at WFO/max RPM?

Re: Weird right?
Well, when I got it, the fuel pump is hard wired so it comes on when ignition is on. Oil pressure and exact fuel pressure, I wouldn't know.

Well, if the fuel pump is hard wired it shouldn't matter right? Unless it shuts down the injectors? (Which Is what's happening )

Ohm your injectors. Check out their spray pattern. Easy things to check off the list.

Re: Weird right?
Hi T of T. Sounds like vats to me. I have a car with bad fuses holders that cause it not to fuel sometimes. It also had a bad connection where the fuel pump wiring plugs onto the bottom side of the fuel module. Maybe adistirbutor module ifs going out and stops working sometimes and after warming up? Just some ideas.

Re: Weird right?
Ok. I tried it again. Fuel pump is hard wired so it stays running when key is on. Security light goes when key is turned on then goes out. I try to start it and it just turns over. When I spray starter fluid in it it fires and stays running until I shut it off. Oil pressure was at first white line when cold but in the red as it got warm. When I shut it off, I have to sat with either again.
