1982 new heads

Hi guys this is my first post but I have read this forum for years .I have a 1982 corvette cross-fire.i have ported the intake and I have a aftermarket cam.I would like to change the heads.they are factory 76cc. I would like to go to a camel double hump with 64 cc chambers.can the stock computer handle the change in the chambers cc.

Re: 1982 new heads

I don't know much about crossfire corvettes but someone here might even though this is a camaro / firebird forum. But that being said I would imagine going from 76cc to 64cc would be a much bigger issue. I believe the motor stock had a 9:1 compression going form 76 to 64 would bring you closer to 10.3 with the same dimension gaskets. It may become knock prone at that point with the little cam

305 ho head would be a good match. Crossfire's had tiny ports. So pretty much any head would be an improvement. 305 ho head would also be a more viable head than dated 60s heads

Re: 1982 new heads

the heads have the same size ports as most 350 heads ,the intake had very small ports .they have been ported to match the head.If I get lower cc heads will that raise the compression ratio and cause a problem with the computer?

Probably wont cause a problem with the computer but it will probably cause a problem with detention.

Re: 1982 new heads

I have heard of 305 heads being used(58CC IIRC) but compression would be getting up there a little and could cause a detonation problem.I have been thinking some about replacing the stock 76 cc '624s on my CFI 350-runs strong with mild ported '624s,but I know at least one of them has a crack and they also like to warp, seeping compression between the middle cylinders.I have thought about reworked 305 heads,72 cc Dart "iron eagle",heavily modified 1990s LT1 heads,or working over a set of 1975 '882 heads I have handy I know those are not a real fave around here, but they are heavy pre-'77 casting and very similar to the '624s,but with slightly more restrictive exhaust port than '624s-porting will fix that.
