Vortec 350 with LT1 Cam to ZZ4 Cam
Hi:
Just curious if this is worth doing on my 350 Vortec TBI with currently has a 97 LT1 Cam.
I heard the vortecs like a bigger exhaust lobe. If a ZZ4 cam is not a good choice, which cam would be good and is it easy to tune without a crazy lope?
My current LT1 pulls good, but maybe I could go alittle bigger and grab some more ponies. Want to stay away from the LT4 HOT Cam...I don't think my T5 can take it (even though I don't abuse it)
My exhaust is a 3 inch from 2.5 y pipe with headers and a bigger bore TBI.
Thanks!

If you're going to do it at all why not go a little bigger with the Hot Cam or a similar Comp grind? TBH the Hot Cam is just going to push your power curve up in the RPM range. You're already making enough lower end torque to break the T5 anyway. It will just put that torque where you need it higher around 4k rpms. Just don't launch it too hard or start looking for a T56.

Re: Vortec 350 with LT1 Cam to ZZ4 Cam
I would consider the GM SPO 357hp cam or the Hotcam. ZZ4 cam leaves ALOT to be desired when run with anything other than the Aluminum Vette heads and 10:1 compression.
After having some seat time running the SPO cam it runs GREAT in a Vortec 350. In my heavy Express van it pulls HARD with a factory GM 4.3 high stall converter in the 4L85E and 4.56 rear gear. Van is 6,200 lbs and has 31.5" tall LT265 tires on it. I can spin the rear tires on dry pavement without using the brakes. Throttle response is instant and it sounds like a beast with the cutouts open.
