2.02/1.6 stock/vortec?
2.02/1.6 stock/vortec?
Wassap all. The ol' blue smoke on the wall is telling me I'm gonna be needing at least a head job sometime soon. I was planning on getting my stock 350 heads done for 2.02/1.6s, but I found a set of vortec truck heads on the cheeep at the boneyard- would it mess up the efficiency of the vortecs having them cut for the bigger valves instead? Should I leave them alone and just bolt them on or stick with having my stock heads redone? Thanx for any advice
Hello everyone - brand new here!
From what I understand, the Vortec heads utilize a "high swirl" combustion chamber design which makes them more efficient than the typical SBC head - this is their main advantage.
My personal opinion would be to go for the Vortec heads (remembering the issues w/ intake bolt pattern and EGR) if you're able. If not, then upgrading the valve sizes in the original heads should help a little w/ pocket porting - but no huge gains due to their limited sized ports.
Best of luck!
(Tas, this is a great board!)

Keep the stock valves in Vortec heads. They're awesome just like they are.
