I am gonna purchase an open element air cleaner but have one question. where do all the hose go that used to be on the stock setup. I cant imagine that they are not used anymore.

Not used anymore. They are for the stock aircleaners THERMAC system. The vacuum hoses are used to open and close the flap inside of the snorkle, allowing either hot or cold air to the TBI. Dont worry about these if your are going with an open element, just make sure that you cap off where the vacuum hose connects to the TBI with either vacuum cap or screw.
