i am in the process of redoing a few things on my car.. i took off the air pump and the assembly... i dont know what its called , but its the black canister where the air pump pumps into, then into the headers... anyways.. it appeared to be Charcoal like subtance that came out of the rubber pipes.. are there any filters on this that need changing? i looked under 1 of the small black canisters and see that there is a small opening with sort of a mesh material inside... i have an emissions test soon and i need to pass... so are there any filters or things i can change on it?

on a side note... the tube that is supposed to be going to the CAT is not there... i think the previous owner removed it.. will this also make a big difference in emissions?
