Engine/Tranny from theft/fire recovery??

My Trans Am got stolen and burned. To quote the cop who found it, it's "burned beyond recognition". I wasn't able to get a good look at it b/c the yard its at is closed on the weekends. What I could see was the drivers rear quarter. The body wasn't burned enough to start rusting out, but it was down to bare metal, all different shades of gray. The structure still looked pretty solid, like it wasn't enough to melt the body or anything that bad. I could also see the 98 WS6 tips sticking out a little bit and they were still totally intact. So from this very basic description of damage, what do you guys think the odds of salvation for the engine and tranny are? If its worth trying I wanna grab them and put them into the Camaro since the LG4 is tired and the T5 in it is on its last legs...

Wait until you can get a closer look, but the engine and transmission should not have suffered any internal damage from the fire. You would want new seals and gaskets on the stamped covers, new wiring and new fluids, but the internals should be O.K.

Sorry about your ordeal. Did the person who stole the car get roasted along with it? (Kinda like justice?)

Thanks for the help, but what exactly do you mean by "stamped covers"?
