i failed Emissions AGAIN HELP!!!!

FIRST TIME I failed CO with a reading of 1.47 with low idle, and the limit was 1.20 ...

so i put in a 195* therm. fixed the exhaust leak and AIR tube leak going to the cat so the air actualy goes to the cat... And put whatever denatured alcohol i had left into the tank. And raised the idle a couple hundred RPMS, and disconnected two small vacume hoses...

and afterwards my CO% was 2.68!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how did it go up??????????? I can't install a new cat YET. and tomorrow is the last day...

ORIGINAL readings...

..............................High speed..................Low speed........
.....................Standard......Current.....Standard..........Current
RPM............................2577..............................615
HC (ppm).........220................23............220...................190
CO (%)............1.20..............0.18..........1.20..................1.47 (FAIL)
CO2 (%).............................12.8...................................12.1
02 (%)................................18.5...................................9.6

HELP ME!!!!!!

Well, at least you got the hydrocarbons down to a passing level.

Carbin monoxide will be tough to lower unless you get the engine dangerously lean, in which case the NOx emissions would probably rise.

I'm afraid the easiest way to pass will be with a cat converter - even a pup converter farther back in the system might do some good once it gets hot.

well, the shop that i brought it to told me to bring it by early tomorrow morning, and they would look at it all day and play around with it pulling vacum hoses and whatnot trying to get it to pass.. I love this shop.. They also rechecked my emissions today for free without giving up my one free recheck. Good thing to know people in the business (had a short job with these guys last year) oh well, wish me luck.

isnt america a great country? they pass emission laws and they're so easy to get around.

They dont even have them in my area yet, so thats nice. In the next county they have them, but they only test for HC and NOX. Plus the guys running it are ignorant minimum wage workers, so you can just give them ten bucks and you pass the test.

what a country...

Hey, did you change the air filter to a cheap, brand new one? A dirty air filter will raise CO. Buy a cheap walmart filter, and keep it just for emissions tests.

Whoa, I love this shop.. for only $32.50 plus a free inspection (if u fail the first test you get a second free, even though this is my 3rd test,) they "adjusted it to pass", i asked them what they did and they said the mechanic who did the work wasn't available... but take a look at these new readings compared to the first ones in the first post..

RPM............................2410..............................886
HC (ppm).........220................22............220...................151
