Towing with a Camaro

I just bought/installed a Class I trailer hitch for my 86 Camaro, with a 305/auto.
I'm firstly amazed that they sell a hitch made to fit the Camaro and secondly that it seems designed to be installed in exactly the same place as the stock exhaust system. Did the designer think I didn't have an exhaust system or what? Finally with a little bending and banging, I got it mounted properly.

I have two things I like to tow, a utility trailer with a touring bike on it, about 1,100 lbs trailer plus bike, and a Surfside camper trailer, about 1,300 lbs, loaded and ready for the weekend.
I towed the Surfside home from where I bought it, no problem.
Any experiences or problems with towing I should watch for?

Buy some frame connectors or be prepared for a twisted unibody.

you may also want to think about a transmission cooler.

Mechanically these thing are built like trucks, structurally, these things are buil like swiss cheese... get some sbc's and a cooler if you have a T-5, a Th-700 would take it though.

I tow a bass tracker (~1300 lbs or so) with my 2.8 Camaro. Yeah, stuff breaks. The car has not as much a problem as youd think with it, but I did end up blowing my tranny (137K on it, so it couldve went anyway, it was on its way out when i got it). All I can tell you is to get a trannsmission cooler, plan on taking a long time to stop and be VERY careful in the rain, Ive blown through several stop signs. Oh and as a caution, try not to get it to downshift to 2nd on the highway. I have 3.23's in the maro, and it revs very high when it goes to 2nd at 55 or 60 mph. Theres no way that good for the motor.
