hey people

i am new to this board,
i am planning on buying this $500 pile of crap,
and the engine needs to be rebuilt
the car is an '84 trans am
and i was wondering how much should i pay
for the engine to be rebuilt?
and also, how much should it cost to get it to 383ci?
is it worth it?
i mean, dont they have to replace the pistons anyway?
i was considering getting another engine,
but they are very expensive.
i liked the LT1,
but they cost a bit too much.
any ideas?

or should i just save up for a down payment on a newer TA?

 

That depends, any time you rebuild an engine and want power, you're going to run into reliability problems. Guess it all depends on your situation and what you would rather have.

 

When I bought my Eagle kit it was only something like $60 more for the 383 vs. a 355. The machine shop wanted an extra $125 to modify the block for clearance. Hope this helps.
