Question about knock sensor and gear drive...

i have a question for anyone out there. i am getting ready to install a pete jackson "quiet" gear drive in my 92 camaro. i know that there are some of you who would discourage it and some that would say to go for it. well, i'm going for it! my question is this: if i were to disconnect my knock sensor and install a new distributor with vacuum advance, would the ecm freak?? i know that it will throw a fault code (for the knock sensor), but would disconnecting the knock sensor cause any other problems. i've been told that the knock sensors sole purpose is to advance or retard timing, so if i am implementing another solution (vac advance) to engine ping shouldn't the car run fine?

i don't have a signature built and saved yet so here is what i've got...

speed-o-motive 383 stroker, sportsman II heads, edelbrock 1 3/4" headers, edelbrock 58mm TB, ported plenum, slp runners, svo 24# injectors, true dual custom exhaust, yada yada yada; you get the idea.

any responses would be helpful!!

thanks in advance!

Yes, your ecm will freak, you can correct for the knock sensor, but without the distributor hook ups, half the computers function won't work, and it'll hate it.
For the same kinda money you could start burning your own chips and get better results.

The computer would definetly throw up. I too, once thought that the vibration from the gear drive would send a false alarm to the knock sensor. After asking about it, I did not find one person on here who had/was using a gear drive that had a problem. I would leave the knock sensor on there and then check to see if your timing is being retarded due to knock.

Thanks.

Just curious--what kinds of other problems would I see?
