New block

I'm trying to find a block to start my build-up on, I'm looking for a 400 with 4 bolt splayed, and a 4.125 bore.
I've been thinking about going with the Motown Race Block from World Products, this is the site for it..

Whats your thinking about this block, do you know of a better one?

forgot to add, block is going to be for a 427 "hopfully" pulling 500+ hp

thats a very good choice to go with. with that block you can go as much as 454 cubes for a small block chevy:hail: just remember that as with every new cast block, you'll need to take it to a machine shop and have them put it in an oven and raise and lower the temperature for several hours to season in. if not then you'll put it together, fire it up, the block will actually flex and f u c k up the whole deal. gotta season da new blocks.

i've not heard of that before, is it a one time thing? and do you need to do that with all casted parts?

i'd say that's about as good as it gets. the other cast parts should be fine. ask your machine shop

As a matter-a-fact, I do. This is the price from the Summit Racing book that came in the mail yesterday.
Block with steel mains is $1,999.00
Block with ductile iron mains is $1,699.00

So whats the difference between steel, and ductile iron mains?

if it is a race only motor get the steel mains.......otherwise get the iron ones. on the street the steel mains will make the bearing wear un-even. the half in the block will wear out before the half in the cap due to the iron block flexing more than the steel caps. street driving actually puts more wear on an engine than a short blast down the strip even at high rpm.
