#1 piston to TDC
Please help.
My chilton tells me to put the camshaft sprocket timing mark @ 6 o'clock, and the crankshaft sprocket timing mark @ 12'oclock. The pictures that are with these instructions show this same alignment as having the #6piston @TDC. Another picture shows both sprocket timing marks pointing straight up as having the #1 piston @TDC. It has confused me, and gotten me off schedule. I was hoping to be driving it again this week. Can any help me out as to how I set the timing marks to get #1 @TDC???
Thanks a lot,
Brett

thanks a lot,
That is what everybody seems to be saying. My chilton just had me confused. I am going to go install the new chain as soon as I can find someone that knows how to get the crank sprocket to slide the rest of the way on. It is almost there, am right past the split section of the guide you use to slide the keyway on.
Any suggestions?

Might want another opinion before you try this, but if I remember right, we slid the old gear on the crank (no key of course) to act as a spacer, then tapped it on. A large socket over the end of the crank gives you something to tap on.
Make sure the Woodruff key is seated correctly, so that one edge is not raised, catching the sprocket as you install it.
You can heat the crank sprocket to about 300°F in an oven to help slide it on with less force. Use a leather welding glove and work quickly, since the sprocket will begin to shrink as soon as it contacts the "cold" crank snout.
