383 stroker question...

Finishing up a kit 383. The cam is a 230/230 .480/.480 regular cam. I thought I would need to go to a small base circle cam. I cleared any parts in the engine that would hit, problem is the cam is opening the intake valve before the exhaust valve is totally closed. I called a shop that built my dad's 383 and he said this is normal. I just want some other opinions on this.

What kind of intake are you going to be running and are you adding any power adders like a blower or N2O??
I don't think you want to have any overlap on a car that you are going to be driving on a normal basis. I would think you will be bleeding off too much pressure from the cylinders??

Even stock cams have a little overlap. That's normal.

I stand corrected.
Cam specs and theory is still a topic I need to study up on.

Thanks guys. By the way it's a torker II single plane manifold.
I'd love to add a 6-71 or a supercharger down the road, but i think my compression will be too high, so probably NOS.

Yup, totally normal.

Your car will go faster with a Performer RPM than with that thing you have on it now. It would also run better with a XE274 cam than it will with that older 280H. This is especially true if you add nitrous. That's essentially like dumping liquid oxygen and solid fuel into the motor: it bypasses the intake restrictions, but you still have to get the waste products out somehow. A cam with a bigger exhaust lobe than the intake will make a major improvement over the old single-pattern designs.

Actually I'm building this for high rpm use so I have no use for a dual plane intake.
