Banging?

I finally got my oil pressure gauge working today and i started up the car with the new motor and it read about 30psi. at idle. is that normal. I did not rev it over 1500 rpm. since i didn't wanna wake up the neigborhood but as soon as i let off the gas i noticed a loud banging coming from somewhere near the rear of the engine. My dad said it could be the flexpalte hitting the starter or something else. He says he's gonna look at it tomorrow with me but i really don't know why it would hit the starter? Any ideas?

my new motor sad 60+ when i first started it. Scared the hell outta me. After the first 30 minute break in it came down to around 25-30 psi or so. As for the loud banging, maybe check to see if one of the flexplate bolts is loose and striking something?
