Rebuild= how much more Hp?

I have a 305 lg4, it's got 160 000 Miles on it and it's not the fastest thing i've ever driven.... Would an engine rebuild make a big difference or just a little , or the 350 swap? WOuld that make a biug diff in hp? I just want to pep up the engine a little, no majior mods or anything

if all you do is rebuild what you have and not up grade any you'll end up with what you already have.

Any rebuild to an engine with 160,000 miles on it you will see a definate increase in HP. This is due to worn out rings allowing compresson to enter the crank case and valve seats that no longer are tight. The 350 step up is a good move as the 305 is still a 305 no matter what you do. There are many good rebuild shops and you might even want to try the work yourself. I have found that it is cheaper and easier to go to a reputable auto parts store and by the 350 already built! The come with at least a one year warranty and you can add your high performance equipment from there. In this day and age unless you know someone in a rebuild shop you will find out bying the the engine out right will save you lots of time and big money.

I too agree with a 350 swap. I have not had good luck with Oreilley/Autozone motors both personally and at my shop, and have had many come back. I would recommend finding a reputable machine shop and having a 350 built in stock dress for your application. The swap should be a breeze.
