no heater

I have no heat coming from any vent in my car. Is it the termostat or heater core? How hard is a heater core to change?

Thanks,
Jason

It's one or the other. If it's the thermostat though, your car should be overheating, because that controls coolant going out to everywhere. If it's the heatercore, your car should run normal temperature but just no heat.

Heatercore replacement is a royal pain in the a$$. I've had my heatercore bypassed cause it's broke for 2 weeks now... I have the new one sitting in the garage... i just haven't had the day to take my dash apart and replace the dam thing.

On the good news side, the heatercore itself is relativley inexpensive, < $40. I'm going to do it myself just cause i don't want to spend $150+ to have a garage do it.

No heat? So it's blowing but not heat right? Heater core will most likely take you around 6hrs, cause most of our cars you need to remove the dash. Fortunately, on my year there is a small black panel under the passenger side dash that only needed to be removed. If it's the car put some towels on the floor board as coolant will leak out.

Around 1/2 hr or so. Take in your old one, I believe they give you a core refund.

Mark, is this what you mean by black pannel? The screws (pointed to in red) make it so you can take off both plastic pieces that have the yellow border around it on my car... you can access the heatercore at that point, but it doesn't seem to me like you can take it out, unless i'm missing something. Mines an 85 trans am, please tell me i don't have to take the whole dash appart!!

thanks,
