Distributor selection ?'s
I'm currently modifying my engine and I need some advice.
I have an '87 LG4 and I'm junkin everything on the top end of my engine and putting in the following: Iron vortec heads, Edelbrock preformer RPM intake,700 CFM carter carb, heddman shorty headers with matching Y-pipe,Hooker cat back, Self aligning roller rockers, and so on.
I need help picking an ignition setup and money isn't a problem,
First I need to find a distributor, and it has to bypass all ECM or engine computer crap so what distributor typre should I get,Vaccum advance or mechanical.
I'll also consider an electronic ignition.
My car will also be lacking all emmisions equipment.
I need reliability and power from this sucker so please any input is much welcomed.

Distributors without computerized advance all have mechanical advance to adjust the timing according to RPM. Any car driven on the street will also benefit from vacuum advance, which adds more advance when the throttle is open and the engine is lightly loaded (i.e. cruising), for gas mileage. It's good for 10% or more better fuel mileage.
My recommendation is Performance Distributors in Memphis. That's what I have, works great.

Order an HEI from Jegs or summit or where ever. Just get a good one. Should be less than or right around 200 bucks. Comes with cap rotor coil and only takes one wire to power it and you can tap into the existing harness for a tach signal. They come with vac idle advance and work really well.

MSD ready to Run (doesn't require any ign box, just a coil)
PN#8360, $246.95 at Summit Racing Equipment.
http://store.summitracing.com/
Chevrolet: 262-454, Ready-to-Run Pro-Billet distributor
MSD Says:
The Pro-Billet Ready-to-Run distributor is the perfect upgrade for outdated points distributors or bulky HEI's. Just install the distributor, connect three wires and you are cruising. A powerful ignition amplifier is built into the housing. The increased output of the amplifier outperforms stock ignitions and will smooth out the engine's idle, improve starting, and provide a much higher rpm range. The distributor also features MSD's adjustable mechanical advance so you can custom tailor an ignition curve to match your engines needs. A vacuum advance canister helps improve fuel economy. Supplied with a cap, rotor, iron distributor gear, and vacuum advance.
