I'm going to be building up a 350 and I'm going to go to junkyards to get the block. All the blocks are relatively the same correct? Anything I should look for in specific? Out of a certain model of car or anything? Thanks! Also, how much $$$ do they usually go for?

hi paul

well man i will tell you what i know. first all 350 arnt the same. anything 1986 on uses the 1 piece rear seal. anything before has the two piece. i like the two piece myself. i am going to assume you know about the heads and intake on the 87 and on. what to look for? the best imho is the 69 to 73 blocks. you find this out buy looking at the block casting number on the left, behind the head, and by the number on the pad on the right edge on the front of the right head. thats one way. to further investigate, pull the timing cover off and if it has 010 or 020 under in on the block. thats what you want both are better (bowtie) but one will do. that means the factory put extra tin and nickle in it to make it pour better, season better, and last longer(in a nutshell). if you cant find those numbers its still OK but hell you are shopping for the perfect block right? stay with the cast iron intake man.(4bbl) i dont like aluminum. check to see if the yard has rams horn exhaust manifolds. they are the best. real cheap too used. try to buy the whole motor around here 200 bucks. in ms. and check to see how clean the motor is before you buy, the dirtier the worse it is . clean is always better. pull the dipstick and see what the oil looks like. check for anything out of whack. theres more but that will get you started.
