another fuel pump ?????
a question from a friend has me confused.....here it is.....
i have an 82 t/a that the previous owners
swaped the 305 carburated for a 350 carburated with an edelbrock 600 cfm. my
problem is they did'nt hook things up that i think needs to hook up. the
fuel tank builds up a lot of pressure so i need to leave the gas cap loose
the fuel pump had only 2 ports so i replaced it with a 3 port and hooked up
the return line but there is no charcoal canister so the tank still builds
pressure. do you know what i need to do to get things hooked up properly any
advice would be appreciated.
aren't all the 3rd gen tanks vented with a third line? If not, would a vented cap solve his problem?
This one has me stumped!!!

i switched my sons 88 305 tbi camaro to a 355 with a carb and no ecm controls. i ran the mechanical pump on the block with a return line to the cars original return. it worked fine and i'd guess you'd need to hook things up the same, so maybe you ought to be looking around for a charcol canister.

The tank is supposed to build up pressure. In fact, many new cars will light the "Check Engine" light if the tank fails to do so. You can't buy a vented cap that will fit these cars because their tank is supposed to be pressurized. You're not supposed to leave the cap loose.
What are you really asking? Is the car running wrong some way?

here is what he says...........The only symptom is tremendous pressure built up in the gas tank,so much that the tank will make a groaning sound after a while and i think its releasing pressure through a plastic releif valve just over the rear axel drivers side.I talked to one mechanic and his suggestion was to drill a hole in the gas cap but i want to fix the problem. Right now i loosen the cap when i drive the car and tighten it in my garage so i dont smell gas fumes all the time. I have 2 lines on the passengers side 1 is the fuel ine 3/8 dia 1 is the return line 5/16 dia. on the drivers side there is a 1/4 dia line with a rubber cap on it. It stops right beside the front inner fender this may be the line that should be hooked up to the charcoal canister. I looked at a canister they have at autozone but i dont know how to route looks like there should be a line from it to the carb it keep in mind i have a striped down 350 engine on emissions stuff at all. The picture in the Haynes manual for carbed 305 shows a lot of hoses to hook up nothing like mine. This really terific that your willing to take the time to help me. Probably wont be able to talk again until Monday thanks Roger
I think if he just unplugs the rubber tube wich I believe is the vent line all should be well...my vent line isnt connected to my non existing cannister and I have no probs with the stock 40psi pump and malory reg..
