Help with fuel pump, maybe cam?

Today my fuel pump went on me. The mechanical one on the engine. I know it was the fuel pump because i took the line off the filter and nothing came out. I was told this could be because my cam is messed up. The idle is at close to 1K. Now how do i change the pump. I know i have to look out for the rod not to fall. id it hard, or a medium job? I changed my waterpump and that was pretty easy. Can someone help. This needs to be done like 3 hours ago.

if i remember correctly, you need to find a long bolt and screw it into the front of the block just to the right of the mounting hole for the pump. You will see the hole, and perhaps a small bolt bolted into the hold to prevent oil from leaking out. When you do that it will prevent the rod from falling out. Make sure you don't tighten it too much. About changing the pump, after you do that it is real easy. Just unbolt the bolts holding it on, and put the new one in. make sure you put the fuel line coming from the tank on the new pump first, Just in case so you don't leak fuel from the tank. Keep in mind you will lose some fuel from inside the line.

Been a long time since i changed a fuel pump... Hope this info helps.

Don't panic if the rod falls. I usualy just let mine fall, and it's not to hard to get up with a screw driver and hold it with your finger, then slide the pump arm in there real quick.
Had to do it today

BTW: try to do it with the your timing is #1 TDC, that way the lobe is on it's smallest rise. I think

Sounds pretty easy. So if the rod falls I can put it back with a screw driver. Got it. I am not to worried about gas or if any oil comes out. I just need a car to get to the bank and to the parts store. Sounds like maybe a 15-30 minute job. Pretty easy. Could be easier then my trans mount. Thanks for the help.

You can also slap some grease on the rod to keep it from falling out while installing the new pump. Works great!
