any SBC head will bolt up to any SBC block. there aer differances that you want to consider. valve size, chamber size, port size, bolt holes for brackets, steam holes for the 400 SBC.

Just make sure you are not getting the TBI swirl port heads. They have a horrible intrusion of the push rod area into the intake port and are about impossible to make work.

But it sounds like you already know that you have 416 castings, which is good.

 

yeah.. i have 2 pairs of 416 castings.. i'm not sure whats on this 305 though...... .

i'm picking it up monday

Check the casting # on your caprices' 305 heads .
If they are "081" I'd port them. They will flow just a s good or better than 416's, wounce ported.
