IS the torque Convertor locked under WOT??

Alright, if i accelerating at WOT from 1st. when will the T.Q. be locked? will it be locked or unlock during 2-3 shift? also, if it is the opposite of what its supposed to be ( i.e. unlocked when its suppsoed to be locked) will i notice a large difference in acceleration??

i would post this in the tranny forum, but i think there is alot of people here that can answer this question that usualy don't go in there

TPI cars have the TCC unlock prevention speed set at 75/76 mph from the factory. So at any speed above 76, the TCC will be locked, WOT or not.

Depending on your gearing and shift points, it may or may not make a big difference in acceleration. If it locks shortly after the 2-3 shift for example, the effect is to pull your engine down even lower from it's already low recovery RPM and causes a noticable bog.

The only way to fix this is to get into the PROM. Yet another small benfit to PROM burning...

ok, the reason i ask is cause i have a 2-3 upshift slip problem. but it seems like when it does slip, that cars pulls harder.. but when it does make the shift, it doesn't seem to pull as hard. So i thought maybe the torque convertor had something to do with it..

anyway i can hook up a light to the T.C.C. wireing harness to see when its engaged and when it isn't?

I wouldn't hook up a light to it, it may add resistance to the circuit that the computer won't like. You can use a voltmeter, though.

While it's slipping, sure it will pull harder--the rpms are higher than that normally would be. Kinda like slipping the clutch. Your shift is the problem, not the TC or TC clutch.
